Dr. Hubert Minnis.

There are six new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on New Providence, Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis announced today.

This brings the total number of cases to 21 – 18 on New Providence and three on Grand Bahama.

Dr. Minnis said the eastern end of New Providence has been identified as a COVID-19 hotspot.

“As expected we are in a surge,” he said. “This is a community spread.”

Minnis added that aggressive contact tracing is in effect.

The woman from Bimini who recently died tested positive for the disease, the prime minister said.

This is the country’s first COVID-19 related death.
